Not really an ask for fics but a question related to this fandom.
Was there an intense online fight going on between toplock and bottomlock? That's so ridiculous lol. Arguing about sex preferences about a person who doesn't even exist😂.
I'm late to the fandom (quite happy for that) so I don't know about many things.
Also I came across some posts in the toplock tag where some people said that toplock is abusive and people who like it are weirdos and all that. This is so funny and non sensical.
Hey Lovely!
Ahhhhh, yeahhhhhh I vaguely recall this weird divide in the fandom... I was very much on the sidelines of it all because I honestly didn't get why people were arguing over sexual positions, so I don't remember WHY it was an argument or how it was even started.
I THINK it was started with the "DFP" Sherlock era of things, but don't quote me. I kind of became aware of the discourse in the middle of it all because a few of my fandom friends were avid switchlockers so they also thought the debate was ridiculous and we just kind of chatted amongst ourselves.
And listen, there's NOTHING wrong with if you have a preference for one or the other, and your reasons for it are valid. I just don't think people should have gone so far as to offer anonymous death threats to people, seems a little extreme for fictional characters. :|
The peak of BBC Sherlock fandom was... something else, honestly. I always tried to stay on the sidelines of it. Don't get me wrong, I was intrigued by the drama just as much as everyone else and gossiped as well, but I don't miss any of the drama at all. I miss a lot of my old acquaintances who left, and the blogs that used to be around, but honestly it's a comfortable quiet now. And I like being a semi-fandom old so I can help new people navigate around here.
And yeah, looking back on some of the things we argued about, I do cringe (I sure as hell had some bad-awful takes and perceptions as well and all I can do is laugh at myself and move on). And I suppose it does look rather silly to newcomers. But do please know that it wasn't a good time in our fandom, and some people were bullied about it very harshly, so I don't want to minimize that at all. What you don't see are the people who deleted blogs and posts because of harassment. I hope they are all right.
Because yeah, there's SO much more to worry about than two fictional men's fucking positions.
